ProctorWrap HighTack PLUS Tape is a single sided pressure sensitive adhesive tape, made with an aggressive acrylic adhesive, designed primarily to repair, and seal overlaps and joins of external vapour permeable and internal vapour/air retarder construction membranes.

Applications

ProctorWrap HighTack PLUS Tape is ideal for air-tight bonding and sealing of overlaps of air/vapour retarders and vapour permeable membranes. The tape is suitable for bonding of smooth and slightly rough surfaces and can be used to provide a weathertight seal between construction membranes and clean concrete, steel framing or timber framing. This is only in addition to mechanical fixing of the membrane.

Installation

The tape can bond to polyolefin non-woven membranes, aluminium faced insulation boards, plastics, metals, timber, MDF and other manufactured timber sheathings. As with all pressure sensitive tapes, in order to ensure a strong bond, apply pressure with a squeegee and ensure the material is supported from behind when applying the tape. Surfaces being adhered must be dry and free of surfactants, release agents like grease or oil, and dirt or dust. Damp or cold surfaces may prove difficult to adhere to and should be allowed to dry and return to a temperature between +5°C and +40°C prior to application of tape. All mechanical load on membranes should be distributed to mechanical fasteners, the tape not being applied under mechanical load. The use of adhesive tape is not a substitute for the correct fixing of the materials. A membrane is only as good as its joins. Every lap, every penetration, every join between sheets is a potential gap in the weather barrier where most wall wrap failures start, not in the membrane itself. HighTack Plus is the acrylic lap tape built to seal those joins on ProctorWrap installs properly, rather than leaving them to whatever tape happened to be on the truck.

It's a point worth making plainly to anyone speccing or budgeting a membrane job: the membrane itself often gets all the attention in the spec, while the tape is treated as a minor line item. Using a nonmatched tape can technically void warranty cover even if the membrane itself performs fine, since the failure point that eventually shows up is at the join, not in the membrane sheet itself. Worth flagging to clients who ask why a specific tape is called out in the spec rather than "any acrylic tape" being acceptable.
